Coastal Encounters: Southern Vancouver Island Whale Watching | DFH Real Estate

Victoria's endless ocean views are incredible all on their own, but there's something even more majestic lurking beneath the surface: whales! These massive marine mammals can often be seen swimming and leaping around the deeper areas of southern Victoria's coastline during the summer months.

Some of our real estate agents have been on dedicated whale-watching tours given by local companies, and they all loved their time on the water. Book a tour with one of these top-rated whale-watching companies near our Victoria homes for sale to experience that joy yourself.

  • Eagle Wing Tours - 1 Dallas Road, Victoria, BC V8V 0B2
Eagle Wing Tours takes guests out on the Salish Sea in a semi-covered glass-walled catamaran in search of humpback whales, sea lions, orcas, and more. They offer half-day whale-watching tours as well as special three-hour sunset tours where you can watch the sun disappear over the horizon while the whales arc gracefully over the water. Each package includes free photos taken by the crew and a guarantee that you'll see whales—if none show up, you can go on a second tour for free.

  • Ocean Ecoventures - 1721 Cowichan Bay Road, Cowichan Bay, BC V0R 1N0
Ocean Ecoventures' Whale and Wildlife Adventure tours give groups of 12 people or fewer the chance to sail the seas beyond our Cowichan Bay homes for sale, keeping an eye out for orcas, minke whales, grey whales, and other marine wildlife. They offer both half-day and sunset tours, with each lasting around four hours. They guarantee you'll see whales during your tour, offering a free standby trip where you can try again if you're unlucky. They have the highest number of orca sightings of all whale tours in British Columbia, though, so you probably won't need to take them up on it!

  • Orca Spirit Adventures - 146 Kingston Street, Victoria, BC V8V 1V4
Orca Spirit Adventures offers three-hour whale-watching tours led by experienced marine naturalists. You can choose from several different boats for your excursion, including everything from high-end yachts to rough-riding inflatable zodiacs. If you don't see any whales on your first tour, you get to come back for a second trip for free. Tours are available on their own or as part of a package deal combined with seaplane or bus tours or a trip to Butchart Gardens.

  • Sidney Whale Watching - 2537 Beacon Avenue, Sidney, BC V8L 1Y3
Sidney Whale Watching has been owned and operated by experienced First Nations guides for more than 20 years. They use small 12-person boats for their three-hour whale-watching tours, allowing them to provide an intimate experience that respects the sovereignty of nature. Their route takes you around several islands near our Sidney homes for sale and passes by seal colonies, an eagle nest, sea lion hunting grounds, and humpback and killer whale foraging grounds. If you don't see whales while you're out, you can come back for another trip for free whenever you like.

  • Sooke Whale Watching - 1581 Dufour Road, Sooke, BC, V9Z 0T6
Sooke Whale Watching's tours travel the waters around southwestern Vancouver Island, within easy reach of our Sooke homes for sale. The experience lasts up to three hours and will take you to local hotspots for orca and humpback whale sightings. You might also spot some other local wildlife, including porpoises, sea lions, cormorants, and bald eagles. You're guaranteed to see whales during the peak months of July through September, and you'll get a free trip to try again if you don't.
