Originally designed by Isaburo Kishida in 1907, the Japanese Garden at Esquimalt Gorge Park has had a storied, sometimes tumultuous history in more than a century since, and remains a lovely place to visit to this day. This garden is part of a long-term refurbishment project as well, with the construction of an ornamental stream, traditional Japanese footbridge, and traditional Japanese entry gate completed in 2009.
Hatley Park National Historic Site – 2005 Sooke Road, Victoria, BC V9B 5Y2
Built in the Edwardian style, Hatley Park National Historic Site is a truly magnificent historic estate where you'll discover perfectly manicured gardens that draw upon a variety of international influences. Explore Japanese gardens, Italian gardens, a classic Edwardian rose garden, and even a migratory bird sanctuary. For longer strolls, there are 15 km of walking trails that travel through old-growth forests.

A labour of love that spanned more than four decades, Abkhazi Garden was created by Prince and Princess Abkhazi in 1946 before being further developed by the couple over many years. These gardens are notable in part because they incorporate the natural layout of the land rather than changing it. While you're there, be sure to visit the Tea House, which often utilizes ingredients grown fresh in Abkhazi Garden.
